Saturday Program
Prairie Flower offers a number of Scheduled Programs on Saturday in areas including Skills, Food, Fun-STEM-Team Building, Crafts, and Camp Exploration. Many options are offered year after year, and we switch it up with new options every year as well.
Junior Troops
-
Adult volunteers are expected to stay with your junior troops during all of the Saturday programs.
-
The program volunteer is there to present program and anticipate adult volunteers will help during the craft programs.
-
Adult volunteers are welcome to also participate in the programs. However in some programs where space is limited like Kayaking - the girls will have priority.
Caddette Senior and Ambassador Troops
-
These age levels can sign up in pairs, groups, or as troop.
-
Your troop can determine if your scouts are ready to be able to attend program as buddies. Troop leaders are still ultimately responsible for your girls.
-
Caddettes, Seniors and Ambassadors will receive individual schedules for Saturday.
-
Adults will also receive a copy of all the schedules for the groups in their troop.
-
Groups need to remain consistent - AKA Susie and Sally are a Group, Betty and Barbara are a group. They cannot change out and be Susie and Betty, and Sally and Barbara. That is just TOO challenging to schedule and track.
Adult Troop Volunteers of CSA troops
-
Adults may sign up for program just as the Caddettes, Seniors and Ambassadors do.
-
If you want to do activities, you must sign up at the same time as you sign up your troop (there is an option in the Logistics and Program Choice form for adults)
-
If your troop has extra adults and they sign up to help run program, or in other ways at Prairie Flower, the adult will be free - 1 free adult per troop max.
-
We can always use extra hands so if you would like to volunteer or you know someone else who would - check out our Volunteer Page.
Silk Screening
One of Prairie Flower’s traditions is our silk-screening activity. Everyone attending camp is invited to bring an item, choose a design, and have it silk-screened as a special Prairie Flower souvenir.
Suggested Items to Screen
-
Bring one cloth item to turn into a Prairie Flower souvenir! Great choices are t-shirts, pillowcases, or dish towels.
(No paper items, please.) Bandanas—especially muslin—don’t work very well. -
Your item needs a flat, smooth spot with no seams so the design can look its best.
-
One item per person, please—so everyone gets a turn!
-
Everyone does NOT have to screen the same thing, or choose the same image and options so it can be uniquely yours!
-
Big or thick items (like canvas bags) can only be printed in black ink. Because they’re harder to print, the design might be a little imperfect—and that’s part of the fun!
How it works
-
The silk-screen station will be set up in the Dining Hall on Friday evening.
Please bring your item and follow the posted directions to get it ready before the first program class on Saturday. -
Our Prairie Flower volunteers will do the silk screening on Saturday morning. Once the items are dry, they will be sorted by troop number.
-
Finished items will be ready for pick-up after the closing ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
-
To help the design last, items should be ironed before washing. Irons will be available in the Dining Hall once the screening is complete.

Outdoor Cooking Competition
Get ready to cook up something amazing! 🍳✨
Show off your camp culinary skills by creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece dish while at camp.
This is a GIRLS-ONLY competition, and the girls are in charge of everything—choosing the dish, prepping, cooking, and presenting it to the judges. They’ll also get a chance to talk about their creation, share the story behind it, and answer a few fun questions.
Judges will score each dish on:
-
👀 How it looks
-
💡 Originality
-
😋 Taste
-
📖 Your story and interview
-
Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age level: Juniors, Cadettes, and Seniors/Ambassadors.
2026 Theme is BRUNCH!
So grab your aprons, get creative, and let your inner camp chef shine! 🌟🍴
Competition Rules (Girl-Powered!)
-
Girls do everything! Planning, prepping, cooking, plating, and presenting must all be done by the girls in the troop.
-
Your dish must be made entirely at camp—no cooking ahead of time.
-
Dishes can be hot or cold, any style, any cooking method, and must fit this year's theme..
-
Be on time for your presentation! If something changes and you can’t make it, send someone to let the judges know.
-
If your troop has girls of different ages, choose the age level that fits your troop best.
-
Each troop may enter one dish. If you have a very large troop or special situation, have a leader email the Prairie Flower Committee.
Sign up for a Presentation time at the link below by May 1st.
Scouts will have 5 minutes for their presentation.
The competition will happen during lunch time on Saturday 12:00-2:00.
Other Things To Do at Camp
SWAPS
Traditions connect Girl Scouts across the globe. They link current Girl Scouts to the trailblazers who came before them and remind them of the camaraderie that comes with a wide network of millions of fellow Girl Scouts and Girl Scout alums. One exciting tradition your Girl Scouts may experience is exchanging SWAPS with other Girl Scouts. Prairie Flower is proud to continue this tradition.
SWAPS is a clever acronym for “Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere.” SWAPS are small tokens or keepsakes that Girl Scouts of ALL ages trade with other Girl Scouts that serve as a reminder of a memory or special event. They made their first appearance at national Girl Scout Senior Roundups in the 1950s and 1960s. Historically, SWAPS were and still are a way to provide contact information for Girl Scouts to stay connected after larger events; a sort of Girl Scout business card. They’re a great way to share stories and get to know Girl Scouts from across the country and the world.
Some troops plan their SWAPS to match the theme of the event, or some come up with ideas that show a little bit of their troop’s personality.
Whether you’re brand new to this SWAP business or a seasoned veteran with a few tricks up your sleeve, there are endless ideas online.
Swapping at Prairie Flower is optional. You can SWAP anytime as long as it is not disruptive to other activities. Hang around the Dining Hall field after the Saturday closing program for a dedicated SWAP time.
SWAPS Etiquette
-
Never refuse to swap with another person.
-
Swap face-to-face, especially if exchanging addresses or email information.
-
Avoid using glass and sharp objects in swaps.
-
Follow all Safety Activity Check Points guidelines.
-
Avoid using food products, unless they are individually wrapped.
-
Do not include your entire name on your SWAP. Instead use first name/last initial, a Troop number, or first initial/last name.

Flag Ceremony
-
Saturday starts and ends with a Flag Ceremony performed by a troop who is attending camp.
-
Performing the Flag Ceremony is a big honor at Prairie Flower. We have very high expectations for the Troops that do this.
-
Any troop doing a flag ceremony over the weekend will be required to meet with a member of the Prairie Flower Staff before doing the ceremony. Please check in at the Friday evening at the Dining hall.
-
All Troops should review Flag Ceremony Etiquette information before coming to camp, whether doing the ceremony or not
-
We will also be doing a Flag Retirement Ceremony
-
Retiring a flag by burning during a respectful ceremony is the acceptable way to dispose of a flag. You cannot just throw it away.
-
This will take place immediately following Saturday evening closing flag ceremony and is encouraged for your troop to attend.
-
If you have a flag that needs to be retired you may bring it to Prairie Flower to be added to our collection of flags.
