PROCEDURES

PLEASE MAKE CERTAIN ALL ADULTS AND ALL CAMPERS ATTENDING KNOW THESE PROCEDURES BEFORE THEY ARRIVE.

Questions:  prairieflowercamp@yahoo.com

Check in Check out

CHECK OUT/CHECK IN

Troops check in at the Welcome Center when they arrive as a whole. Final check out will also be at the Welcome Center.

  • BEFORE LEAVING FOR CAMP - COMPLETE THE COVID HEALTH CHECK ON EACH PERSON.

  • SPEED LIMIT ONCE ON CAMP GROUNDS IS 10 MPH.  THERE IS NO DRIVING AFTER YOU HAVE CHECKED IN AND PARKED.

  • We need an accurate list of who is on the property all weekend. To do this:

    • Individuals arriving at a time other than with their troop or returning after leaving camp must check in at the dining hall.

    • Individuals leaving the site must check out in the dining hall.

    • Individuals not returning must check out in the dining hall.

    • Other than the initial troop check in and the final troop checkout, everyone checks in or out in the dining hall.

  • After troop check in and when individuals arrive, all cars must be immediately parked in parking lots. Then your car can be unloaded.

  • There will be a card in your Welcome Packet to place on the dash board of each vehicle remaining on site.

  • There can be NO driving beyond the parking lots. NO exceptions, so please plan ahead.

  • If you or someone else in your group is coming in late or leaving early, they need to park/remain parked in the main parking lot. They must check in/out at the dining hall.

  • Carts for troop use will be preassigned. Each cart may be shared with another troop so be efficient in your move in and move out process.

KITCHEN USE

  • Use of any of the Kitchen facilities is strictly forbidden in ALL cabins.

  • This event is intended to promote outdoor cooking skills and encourage girls to be outdoors.

  • Therefore all food must be stored in a cooler outside of the building or in a car.

  • All food must be prepared and eaten outdoors.

Kitchen Use

FIRES AND FIRE PITS AND PICNIC TABLES

  • Fire pits are limited. Troops who will be cooking with charcoal or wood need to indicate on the lodging form that they will need a fire pit. Fire pits will be assigned to you for main meals only.

  • Fire pits will not be assigned for night fires and snacks. We expect that you will share with other troops.  This is a great way to make new friends and be sister Girl Scouts.

  • There will not be enough established fire pits for every troop to have one. Prairie Flower will provide as many temporary ones as possible. If more are needed than we have, the staff will help you find one to share with another troop.  This is why it is very important to know if you need a fire and for which meals.

  • You cannot count on having one entirely for your use during cooking. Please come prepared to share fire pits.

No fire wood may be brought into camp. Only wood provided or gathered on site may be used to make fires.

FIRE STARTERS

  • No liquid fire starters will be allowed.

  • Use fire starters made of sawdust and wax for wood and charcoal fires. Please do not use charcoal lighter fluid or charcoal with lighter fluid in it.

  • Please refer to the Girl Scout of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valley’s Outdoor Manual.

PICNIC TABLES

  • There are also a limited number of picnic tables. You should expect not to eat at a table.  And once again, be prepared to share and work with your fellow Girl Scouts from other Troops accommodate everyone’s needs.

  • Bring sit-upons or camp chairs so you can sit on the ground to eat if necessary. These will also be useful at the campfires and possible other activities throughout the weekend

  • Repack your food before you come so there is minimal garbage.

  • Flatten all paper, styrofoam, containers, etc before putting in garbage.

  • Do not burn plastic or styrofoam because they produce noxious and poisonous fumes.

  • Recycling is available at camp, so please rinse and flatten all cans, cardboard, etc. and place them in the recycle bins.

  • Garbage should be put into small garbage bags and placed in the dumpsters after each meal, preferably before dark. There will be critters around at night.

  • All garbage must be in the dumpsters by the end of the event. There should be no garbage left in the buildings or any other garbage cans on site.

  • Water should be disposed of away from your cooking area in an accessible grassy spot. Be careful to not get soap or bleach on leaves of trees or shrubs.

Troops will be expected to conserve water at all times.

COURTESY

  • Do not walk through another group’s campsite—especially tenting sites. Go around.

  • Do not walk through a program activity and if arriving early - do not interrupt the current group

  • Quiet time starts at 9:30 PM and continues until 7:30 AM. Groups need to be in their sites and quiet by that time, not necessarily in bed. Talk quietly. You may still have a campfire. Please respect these times. We do not want cranky people because they have been kept up late or awakened early!

  • Thank the volunteers doing program.

  • Do not use or answer phones during program

  • Ask if you may take pictures before taking pictures.

  • Be patient with volunteers and other troops or groups.  Everyone is here to have fun at an outdoor camp experience. And remember EVERYONE here is a VOLUNTEER.

  • If someone else did what you are doing, would it annoy or frustrate you?  If so, don't do it.

FOR ADULTS ONLY

There will be coffee, hot water for tea or hot chocolate and also a cold drink available in the dining hall.

Coffee and hot water will be available from 7:30 AM to 8:45 PM.
